  • How are assessments conducted?
At Premier Learning Institute, our assessment methods are designed to evaluate students’ knowledge, skills, and understanding in a variety of ways to cater to diverse learning styles. We aim to ensure that assessments not only measure comprehension and knowledge retainment, but also encourage practical application and critical thinking. Below is a detailed outline of how we conduct assessments across our programmes. Assessment Methods Practical Observations and Demonstrations For courses that involve hands-on skills, such as design, technology, or vocational programmes, we often conduct practical observations or demonstrations. These assessments allow instructors to evaluate a student’s ability to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios. Practical assessments may involve live demonstrations of skills, workshops, or lab-based activities, depending on the nature of the course. These assessments provide a direct measure of a student’s competence in their field of study. Coursework and Written Submissions Coursework plays a central role in our assessment strategy, enabling students to demonstrate their understanding through essays, reports, research papers, and other written assignments. These submissions are designed to assess students’ critical thinking, analytical skills, and ability to apply theoretical concepts. Coursework deadlines are communicated in advance, allowing students to manage their time and complete assignments effectively. All assessments in this category are put through plagiarism checking software (i.e. Turnitin or similar), and are often accompanied with a viva-style assessment to assess students’ understanding of the work submitted. Projects and Labs For technical, scientific, and creative disciplines, students are often assessed through projects and lab work. These assessments encourage independent research, problem-solving, and innovation. Students may be required to develop a design, prototype, experiment, or technical solution as part of their assessment. Projects typically allow for collaboration, creativity, and the application of skills in a practical context. Assessments in this category are often accompanied with a viva-style assessment to assess students’ understanding of the work submitted. Examinations Some of our programmes include formal examinations, either at the mid-point or the conclusion of a module. To maintain academic integrity, we use a trusted online proctoring (remote invigilation) service that is approved by the UK Government’s Office for Students. This service ensures that examinations are conducted securely, with students monitored remotely to prevent malpractice. The proctoring system is designed to comply with the highest standards of security and privacy while allowing students to take exams in a convenient, remote setting. Viva Voce (Oral Exams) We frequently use viva voce (oral exams) as part of our assessment process, particularly for postgraduate programmes. Vivas provide an opportunity for students to discuss and defend their work in front of an academic panel or examiner. This form of assessment allows us to gauge a student’s depth of understanding, critical thinking, and ability to articulate their knowledge clearly and confidently. Vivas are often used alongside written submissions to provide a comprehensive assessment of student competence. Presentations In many of our courses, students are required to give presentations, either individually or in groups. These presentations assess the student’s ability to communicate ideas clearly, respond to questions, and demonstrate their understanding of a particular topic. Presentation skills are essential for many professional settings, and our assessment process is designed to help students refine these skills. Assessment Integrity and Fairness At Premier Learning Institute, we are committed to ensuring that all assessments are conducted with integrity and fairness. To this end, our assessments are: Transparent: Clear criteria and guidelines are provided for each assessment type, ensuring that students understand how they will be evaluated. Supportive: Throughout the assessment process, students have access to feedback, tutorials, and one-on-one sessions to help them succeed. Flexible: We offer flexibility in assessment formats to accommodate different learning preferences and life circumstances, without compromising academic rigour. Through a combination of practical observations, coursework, projects, presentations, vivas, and proctored examinations, we ensure that our assessments are comprehensive and aligned with the highest educational standards. This diverse approach allows students to showcase their abilities in multiple ways, fostering a deeper and more meaningful learning experience.

  • Can I pursue a master’s degree if I don’t have a bachelor’s degree?
While we usually prefer applicants to hold a bachelor’s degree to gain entry into our postgraduate programmes, we understand that academic qualifications are not the only indicator of capability. For individuals without a bachelor’s degree, we may grant admission to a master’s programme based on the following criteria: Work Experience Applicants with significant work experience in their chosen field may be eligible for consideration. We evaluate the relevance, depth, and duration of your professional background to determine if it aligns with the academic rigour of our master’s programme. If your experience demonstrates advanced knowledge and practical skills equivalent to an undergraduate degree, you may qualify for admission. Industry Certifications and Professional Development Holding recognised vendor and industry certifications can be a strong indicator of your capabilities. Certifications from reputable organisations or completion of professional development courses that demonstrate expertise in a specific area are valuable when assessing your suitability for a master’s programme. These certifications are often considered in conjunction with your work experience. Portfolio of Work In some cases, we may request a portfolio showcasing your professional achievements, projects, or work in the industry. This portfolio can help us assess the practical application of your skills and your readiness for postgraduate study. Interviews and Assessments As part of the admissions process for candidates without a bachelor’s degree, we may conduct interviews or request additional assessments to better understand your background and assess your potential for success in a master’s programme. This allows us to evaluate your knowledge, motivation, and academic readiness. Why We Consider Professional Experience At Premier Learning Institute, we recognise that learning can take many forms. Many professionals gain valuable expertise through years of hands-on experience, industry training, and continuous professional development. We believe that individuals with this experience can bring a unique perspective to postgraduate study, contributing to the diversity of ideas and enriching the learning environment. Next Steps If you believe your professional experience, certifications, and personal development qualify you for a master’s degree, we encourage you to apply. Each application is reviewed on a case-by-case basis, and we are happy to discuss your individual circumstances during the admissions process. To find out more about the entry requirements for specific master’s programmes, feel free to contact our admissions team for guidance. Through our flexible admissions policy, we aim to provide opportunities for lifelong learning and career advancement, ensuring that all individuals, regardless of their academic background, have the chance to pursue their educational goals.
  • How are tuition fees collected?
Tuition fees at Premier Learning Institute vary depending on the programme level and payment plan chosen. Here’s an overview of how fees are structured and collected. Flexible Payment Options We offer flexible payment plans to suit students’ financial needs for all our courses. All fees can be paid in full upfront, which qualifies for a discount, or students can choose to pay in installments. Payment plans are available in 3, 6, or 12 monthly installments, allowing students to spread the cost of their education over a manageable period. The specific payment terms and options will be clearly stated in your application portal, allowing you to select the plan that works best for you. This flexibility ensures that all students, regardless of their financial situation, have the opportunity to access high-quality education. Undergraduate (Bachelor’s Degree) Programmes Tuition fees for undergraduate programmes are charged annually, with each year’s fee payable before the start of that academic year. Students must complete payment for the current year before progressing to the subsequent year of study. This ensures that financial commitments are aligned with academic progress. Postgraduate (Master’s and Doctoral Degrees) and Professional Development Programmes For postgraduate and professional development programmes, tuition fees are charged as a single lump sum for the entire programme, even if the programme length is more than a year. This one-time payment covers the full duration of the programme.
  • Do I need a student visa for Estonia, UK or EU?
At Premier Learning Institute, the majority of our programmes are delivered entirely online, and as we are a registered educational institution in the Republic of Estonia, a member state of the EU, no student visa is required for our online courses. You can complete your studies from the comfort of your home, regardless of your location. For selected professional development programmes that are delivered face-to-face in various countries—such as our intensive IELTS preparation course—you may need to arrange a visa to attend the course in the host country, if you are not already a resident there. However, these programmes are typically designed for residents of the host country. Make sure to check the specific course details on the programme page for any in-person requirements, and contact our admissions team for further guidance if necessary.
  • Do you charge an application fee?
While most of our programmes do not have an application fee, some of our programmes do require an application fee, which is fully refunded in the instance of a negative outcome. If a fee applies to the programme you are interested in, it will be clearly stated on the course page. Payment of the fee will be collected during the application process. The application fee covers the administrative costs associated with processing your application. This includes a thorough review of your application and participation in our selection process. Following your interview, a panel—comprised of at least an academic member, a senior manager, and an independent board member—will evaluate your application, interview notes, and overall eligibility for the programme. You will be notified of the panel’s decision via email and through our applications portal. This process ensures that every application is carefully considered to maintain our high academic standards and provide the best possible support to prospective students.

They will meet with you regularly to discuss your progress and help keep your project on track. Can I Change My Supervisor? Yes, it is possible to change your supervisor if necessary. While we strive to ensure the best match from the start, we understand that circumstances may change, and sometimes a different supervisor may be more suitable for your research or personal needs. Reasons for Changing Supervisors: Research Direction: If your research focus shifts or evolves significantly, it may make sense to work with a supervisor whose expertise better matches the new direction of your project. Personal or Professional Fit: If you feel that the working relationship with your current supervisor is not conducive to your progress, you can request a change. How to Change Supervisors: If you wish to change your supervisor, the process is straightforward. You can raise the matter with your programme coordinator or academic director, who will work with you to facilitate the change. We aim to ensure that the transition is smooth and does not disrupt your research progress. At Premier Learning Institute, we are committed to providing the best possible academic support to help you succeed in your education journey.
  • Can I pursue a Ph.D., Ed.D., or other doctoral degrees if I don’t have a master’s degree?
While we typically require applicants to hold a master’s degree for entry into our doctoral programmes, we understand that exceptional candidates with alternative qualifications or extensive professional experience may still be eligible. In certain circumstances, we may grant admission to a Ph.D., Ed.D., or other doctoral programmes based on the following criteria: Exceptional Professional Experience If you have significant, relevant work experience in your chosen field, we may consider this as an alternative to a master’s degree. Your professional background should reflect a deep level of expertise, leadership, and practical knowledge that would enable you to undertake doctoral-level research or practice-based study. Academic and Industry Certifications Applicants who have completed advanced academic or professional certifications from recognised institutions or industry bodies may also be considered. These certifications should demonstrate mastery in a specialised area that aligns with your intended doctoral research or study. Outstanding Academic Performance in a Bachelor’s Degree In some cases, applicants with exceptional academic performance at the bachelor’s level, particularly in research-heavy programmes, may be admitted directly to a doctoral programme. This is particularly applicable if your bachelor’s degree included a substantial research component or if you have published research that demonstrates your readiness for doctoral-level study. Research Publications and Contributions A strong record of research publications or contributions to your field, whether through industry reports, academic journals, or other notable work, may serve as evidence of your ability to engage in high-level academic research. These contributions can strengthen your application in the absence of a master’s degree. Interviews and Additional Assessments For candidates without a master’s degree, we may conduct additional interviews or require you to submit research proposals or other academic assessments to evaluate your readiness for doctoral study. This allows us to assess your research skills, motivation, and capacity for independent, advanced-level work. Why We Consider Professional Experience At Premier Learning Institute, we value diverse pathways to education. We recognise that many professionals gain advanced knowledge and skills through their work, contributing significantly to their field without holding a traditional master’s degree. By considering professional experience, we aim to provide opportunities for lifelong learning and to support individuals who are ready to contribute to academic and professional research at the highest level. Next Steps If you believe your experience, certifications, or academic background qualify you for a doctoral programme, we encourage you to apply. Each application is reviewed individually, and we are happy to discuss your unique circumstances. For more information on entry requirements, feel free to contact our admissions team for personalised advice. Through our flexible admissions policy, Premier Learning Institute ensures that individuals with the ambition, experience, and potential to succeed at the doctoral level have the opportunity to pursue their educational and research goals.
  • What is a Ph.D. by Portfolio?
A Ph.D. by Portfolio is an alternative route to earning a doctoral degree, designed for individuals who have made significant contributions to their field through practical work or research, rather than following a traditional academic path. Instead of submitting a single thesis, candidates compile a collection of previously completed work that demonstrates their expertise and contributions. Key Features of a Ph.D. by Portfolio: Compilation of Work The portfolio typically includes published research papers, technical reports, creative projects, professional practice, or other substantial contributions relevant to the field. This body of work should reflect a coherent theme and demonstrate the candidate’s advanced understanding of their subject area. Reflective Commentary Alongside the portfolio, candidates are required to provide a reflective commentary. This written component explains the significance of the work, how it contributes to the field, and how it meets the standards of doctoral-level research. It also ties together the various elements of the portfolio to present a clear narrative of the candidate’s professional and academic journey. Suitability for Professionals A Ph.D. by Portfolio is particularly suited for professionals who have spent years developing their expertise outside of traditional academic settings. It offers a way to formalize and gain recognition for their contributions through a doctoral qualification. Viva Voce Examination As with traditional Ph.D. programmes, candidates will defend their portfolio in a viva voce (oral exam). The viva assesses the quality, originality, and coherence of the portfolio, as well as the candidate’s understanding of the wider context of their work. Who is it for? The Ph.D. by Portfolio is ideal for professionals, researchers, and creative practitioners who have already produced substantial work in their field and wish to obtain a doctoral qualification without starting from scratch on a new research project. This route provides an excellent opportunity for experienced individuals to formalise their expertise and gain recognition for their contributions through a prestigious academic qualification.
  • What is the difference between a Ph.D. and an Ed.D., and can graduates of both use the title ‘Dr.’?
A Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy) and an Ed.D. (Doctor of Education) are both doctoral-level degrees and hold the same academic equivalence. Graduates of both are entitled to use the title “Dr.” before their names. The primary difference lies in their focus: Ph.D.: This is a research-focused degree, primarily aimed at those who want to contribute to academic knowledge and theoretical frameworks in their field through in-depth research. Ph.D. graduates often pursue careers in academia, university teaching, or specialised research roles. Ed.D.: The Ed.D. is a practice-oriented degree, designed for those who want to apply research to solve real-world problems in education. Ed.D. graduates typically take on leadership or administrative positions in educational institutions, such as schools, universities, or policy-making organisations. Both degrees are equally rigorous and prestigious, with the key distinction being whether one’s career aspirations are in academic research or educational leadership and practice.
  • Do I need to publish work for your Ph.D., Ed.D., and other doctoral programmes?
While it is not a formal requirement to publish work during your Ph.D., Ed.D., or other doctoral programmes at Premier Learning Institute, it is highly recommended. Publishing your research can significantly enhance your academic and professional profile, allowing you to contribute to your field and share your findings with a broader audience. Benefits of Publishing: Academic Recognition Publishing in peer-reviewed journals or presenting at conferences helps establish your expertise and credibility within your field. Career Advancement Having published work can open doors to new career opportunities, whether in academia, research, or industry. It demonstrates your ability to conduct and disseminate high-quality research. Contribution to Knowledge By publishing, you contribute to the advancement of knowledge in your field, allowing others to learn from your work and build upon it. Support for Publishing Throughout your doctoral journey, our faculty will provide guidance and mentorship to help you identify appropriate outlets for publishing and refine your research for submission. Although not mandatory, publishing is a valuable step in your doctoral journey and is encouraged to maximise the impact of your research.
  • What is an Ed.D. by Practice?
An Ed.D. (Doctor of Education) by Practice is a professional doctoral programme designed for experienced educators and professionals in education-related fields who wish to advance their careers by addressing real-world challenges through applied research. Instead of a traditional academic thesis, candidates focus on projects or initiatives that directly impact educational practice in their workplace or community. Key Features of an Ed.D. by Practice: Practice-Based Research The Ed.D. by Practice focuses on solving practical problems in educational settings. Candidates identify challenges or areas for improvement in their professional environment and conduct research aimed at implementing solutions. This may involve curriculum development, policy initiatives, leadership strategies, or teaching innovations that are relevant to their context. Workplace Impact Unlike traditional research degrees, the Ed.D. by Practice is centred on applied research that has an immediate impact on the candidate’s professional practice. The outcomes are designed to improve education systems, teaching methods, or school management processes, with a direct focus on benefiting students, teachers, or administrators. Reflective Commentary Candidates are required to submit a reflective commentary alongside their practice-based project, outlining the theoretical framework, research methodology, and the impact of their work. The commentary also demonstrates the relationship between the candidate’s professional practice and academic research. Collaboration with Peers and Mentors The Ed.D. by Practice encourages collaboration with colleagues, mentors, and academic supervisors. Candidates often engage with a professional learning community, sharing insights and gaining feedback from peers, educational leaders, and experts in the field. Viva Voce Examination As with traditional doctoral degrees, candidates will defend their practice-based research in a viva voce (oral exam). During this examination, the candidate must explain and justify their research methodology, findings, and the practical application of their work. Who is it for? The Ed.D. by Practice is tailored for educational professionals such as school leaders, policy-makers, curriculum developers, and teacher educators who want to deepen their understanding of educational theory while applying it directly to their professional practice. It is ideal for those who want to make a meaningful impact on education without stepping away from their careers. This professional doctorate allows candidates to gain a prestigious academic qualification while enhancing their practical expertise and making a tangible difference in their educational environment.
